In 2013, RIBA competitions announces the launch of an international competition for the design of a new pedestrian bridge across the river Irwell as part of Irwell River Park (IRP), in Salford City next to Manchester(UK). IRP aims to create an international waterfront destination, transforming the riverside environment.
According to these guide lines, MEW developed a fine cable-stayed bridge supported by two pillars , situated on the opposite banks. The section aside shows the structural efficiency of the deck; it is made up by a steel tube which, like a backbone, runs across the whole bridge length and supports the upper deck. Steel cables guide the forces to the pillars down to the ground.
